A House to Call Home… Home of the Year!
Another Award Winning Home by Ashcroft
David and Aimee were looking to build a new home for their young family. The couple owned a large site in Mt Albert, Auckland which contained an existing weatherboard home. They planned to move this home to the rear of the site and build a new home on the front. With Aimee’s father being a builder himself and a member of the Master Builder Association, they knew they had a great sounding board to help with their decisions.
Aimee’s dad having previously built four homes partnering with Ashcroft, and being familiar with Ashcroft’s processes and quality, suggested the couple consider engaging Ashcroft Homes as their building partner. After talking with Ashcroft Property Development Consultant Phil MacEwen, David and Aimee decided the Castleton would be the ideal design for them.
The couple chose some fabulous upgrades to personalise their home, including an engineered stone benchtop in the kitchen, a built-in bar in the dining room, and the addition of french doors in the lounge to create a really functional space for entertaining and busy family life. Flooring, tiles and lighting variations were included also. When the build was complete, they added a wraparound deck and louvre pergola providing the family with a year-round outdoor entertainment area.
The final result was a home the whole team could be proud of, and Ashcroft submitted it into the 2021 Master Builder House of the Year awards, where it took out Gold!

Castleton in Mt Albert
This development won a Gold award at the 2021 Registered Master Builder House of the Year competition.

We were really happy with our decision to appoint Ashcroft to our project. Initially, Ashcroft stood out from other building companies, due to their range of standard plans which had been specifically designed around the Auckland Unitary Plan. That was a big factor for us. It meant we were getting a design that would work really well on our site and would satisfy council regulations. And as the construction costs had been considered in the initial design, this also meant we were getting really good value for money.
When it came to the build itself, the team were great; they took the time to walk us through the process, clearly explaining anything we weren’t sure of. And of course, the whole experience was topped off with the home winning Gold at the Master Builder awards – a real testament to the quality of the build itself. We think Ashcroft proved their value on many levels and we’ve happily recommended them to others.
